This is our most prestigious trophy, played for as a medal competition on Captain’s Day. It was first played for in 1982, the first year that the Society had an annually elected Captain, Mike Gillies. In true ‘Boys Own’ fashion, Mike won it himself in that first year. Before that there was simply a Chairman, hence the ‘Chairman’s Cup’, first played for in 1973.
Before being appropriated to be the Captain’s Cup, the trophy itself was originally known as the ‘Hursley House Cup’, and still bears that name as an engraving on the reverse side. The event, even the sport, it was played for in that era is not recorded.
