Order of Merit Divisions 1 & 2

These competitions replaced the Eclectic and Lilliput League competitions respectively. Prior to 2011 the Eclectic was very similar to the Club Championship in that actual score determined the result. It is now based on POSITION in each competition, with no regard for score.

The best 4 results are used. All individual competitions qualify, including Ampfield.

Points are awarded for position, much like the system used for Formula One. The actual points awarded are subject to review, but currently we use 15 for 1st, 12 for 2nd, then diminishing points (10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) for subsequent positions.

The club membership is divided by handicap into two (in principal equal) divisions. Historically the top of division 1 has varied between 18 and 22. The two winners are those with the greatest number of points in each division.

The winner of the Club Championship cannot win either Order of Merit.

Players do not need to ‘enter’ either the Order of Merit or the Club Championship – their results in qualifying competitions will always be counted.
