High Post Golf Club – July 24th

As we head into the business end of the season, HGS ascended upon the delightful High Post golf course, looking out over the edge of Salisbury.

On arrival, members were promptly handed out pre-filled cards by event-organiser Richard Selby, a tasty cherry on top of a well-organised event cake, I hope members noted the Waitrose selection of wines, he doesn’t mess about; 3 OP’s well earned.

Whilst we didn’t quite have the blazing sunshine of previous events this year, I think it’s fair to say that members actually welcomed the cloud cover for a change, with it providing comfortable conditions in which to play. The course itself, as many are, is struggling with the drought conditions. The clubhouse chatter referencing crispy fairways and tough, hard lies even in the middle of the short stuff. I wouldn’t know.

Was great to see John Hartley turn out for his first even of the season and always a pleasure to welcome back a couple of guests in Duncan McRobert and Andy Kwiatek.

A good turnout, with 17 members and 2 guests teeing it up for the best-looking trophy the society has to offer.

Congratulations to all our winners. The event was won outright, with 5 players scoring 36 points so captain was kept busy, again, counting back to split the pack.

No change at the top of our Champion Golfer leaderboard, but the chasing pack are starting to breathe down Dave Cousin’s neck, should make for an exciting run-in.
