Wellow Golf Club – Pam’s Platter & Rabbits Shield Competition

Wellow Golf Club gave 14 of our honourable members a very warm welcome on a blistering Wednesday afternoon. A late change to the two 9 hole courses allowed us to enjoy the A and B courses thus avoiding the C Course and the rough with long grass as tall as the clubhouse where many a ball (and a few visitors) have been known to disappear without trace.

A lively afternoon of golf unfolded with David Green hitting a massive 308 yard drive on the Par 5 B2 hole to win the Longest Drive. Sadly, this was followed by a series of blobs thus re-joining us mere mortals.

The greens were reasonably quick and Dave Imeson won nearest the pin on the short blindsided green on the A9 par 3.

The main event was a Stableford competition playing for Pam’s Platter which sadly failed to turn up. In 3rd place with 38 points was Nigel Linfield who had a very healthy 24 points going out. In 2nd place was Simon Nash also with 38 points taking the honour from Nigel on countback. The winner with an unassailable 44 points was Dean Lardner who benefitted from a very generous handicap courtesy of the World Handicap System. Congratulations and very well played Dean, Simon and Nigel.

Higher handicaps also played for the Rabbits Shield which was won by Simon who insisted on taking his scorecard home for framing. Well done Simon.

My thanks go to all who attended and special thanks to Dave Imeson who organised the event and who promised to bring the trophies along next year!
